Trip to Malvan

Courtsey: Mr. Abhishek Arun Chede

Day 1:

kashedi_ghat This was a 4 day trip on bikes.
The rough plan was travelling to Malvan via NH17 and on return journey see Vijaydurg and Ganapatipule.
Dombivli -> Panvel -> Vadkhal naka, take left -> Mahad, (from here you can go to Raigad fort, Shivtharghal or Pratapgad and Mahabaleshwar) -> Kashedi ghat (nice road and scenery) -> Parshuram ghat (parshuram mandir and vasishthi darshan) -> Chiplun (from here you can go for Guhagar, Hedvi, Velneshwar)(hotel Abhishek for gud konkani food) -> Rajapur -> Kankavali -> after 12-13 km Kasaal phata, take right turn to Malvan. (actually just after 10 km there is a right turn which also goes to Malvan but its not so good and very confusing during night.. avoid it).

Day 2:

Malvan kinara
Malvan kinara

Sindhudurg Sindhudurg fort. – its sea fort. The ferry boats starts by 6 am and they wait for you for an hr so u have to see the fort quickly. Foot and palm prints of Shivaji maharaj. Shivaji Maharaj temple and 2 more temples. 2-3 wells. A branched coconut tree.

tarkarli_beach Tarkarli beach. – golden sand beach. Very wide. Snorkling and scuba diving, dolphin ferry and many more things. We took our bikes on beach. Riding on beach is gr8 exp. Even visited fishermen locality. It’s a complete diff world.

Day 3:

kunkeshwar(Dasara .. the day of simollanghan … we did it by choosing some diff ways.. )
We headed towards Vijaydurg fort. But first we went to Kunkeshwar temple.
This was actually a deep dive in Konkan.. Tal Konkan.. many times inbetween we stooped just to see the nazara…

Way to Kunkeshwar temple:

kunkeshwar_templeMalvan -> Handi 11km -> Aachra 22km -> Munge 5 km. -> Narindre 6km. Take left turn at police chowki after a small bridge on river -> a big tree 6km, take right turn -> Kunkeshwar 3 km. (you can even take left turn at munge and go to Kunkeshwar via mithbaav but its bit confusing) road condition not good.
Kunkeshwar temple is a very beautiful mandir of shiva rightly at sea shore. The beach is also very good.

Vijaydurg

vijaydurgFor a fort lover this is an amazing sea fort. Lot to see inside. The fort is surrounded by sea from 3 sides. Has great history of Maratha Aarmaar. A clever double wall fortification. Origin is 800 years back. Originally build by Raja bhoj. The spots like marks of battle with British, underground tunnel, khubladha buruj (bastion), one storey Courtroom with amazing sound arrangement, 800 years old but intact DhanyaKothar (and on top of that a lodge build by our govt. 5 years back but looks like build 5000 years back.. J ), Queens 3 storey palace, an amazing arrangement for archers, the place from where the Helium is discovered, under water wall for protection, etc etc. Better to take guide with you.

vijaydurg The one thing I found there very strange and disturbing is there is nowhere Saffron flag hoisted. I have seen 18-20 forts till, many were remotely located but every where I found the saffron, the symbol of Shivaji Maharaj’s dynasty hoisted. When I asked to guide he said that govt doesn’t allow it but couldn’t tell the reason.
the journey hereafter was interesting…

From vijaydurg we decided to go to Ganapatipule, near Ratnagiri. The usual route (the way carwale generally take.. J) is via NH17. But we decided to take deep dive in konkan. We planned to go ratnagiri via villages at sea shore. After enquiring we got to know that via Jaitapur – Naate – Purngad - Ratnagiri we can go to Ganpati pule.

We decided to put our bikes in a konkan small fisherboat and go by sea route to jaitapur. But when we were about to start this amazing journey, heavy rains started with crazy winds and the fisherman denied. So we had to ride bike till Jaitapur. And here we felt the real konkan. After having lunch at Vijaydurg, we left for jaitapur. For Jaitapur, travel 8-9 km upto Padel phata and then u have to take left turn (no road sign or anything there so ask native people for the correct road. This road was not tarred and even some place it was just bullock cart trails. And in such risky condition there were curvy roads, little ghat n all. But the nature u see here is so beautiful I didn’t see anywhere in my entire trip. Many times we were stopping just to have the look for more time. At jaitapur we found that the bridge over the river is still under construction. So we boarded our bikes in a small boat and cross the river. After that the road is straightforward upto ratnagiri.

From Ratnagiri we started to Ganapatipule. Again the usual route is via NH17 but we took the road going alongside the sea. The road goes via Saakhartal. On the road, after 7-8 km u see a pole or Stambh. At this point u take left turn. This way also goes to Ganapatipule but via Banshi. And this road is awesome. Along the road u climb a small hill and there is turn on road. Here you see the fantastic view. Watching the sun set from here is a gr8 experience. Do plan yor trip to catch this time. But after that when u move fwd to Ganapatipule, ride very carefully and slowly as the road is very bad and no locality nearby, it becomes very risky in darkness.

We reached Ganapatipule at 8:00 pm and went for Darshan. At such time darshan and then pradakshina to the hill was very peaceful. Then we had veg thali in hotel Shivnandan (something like that .. don’t remember the exact name). the food was nice. We found a decent lodge, Swami Samarth something.. just 300/- for 3 of us.

Day 4:

Back home
konkan konkanWe woke up early and took darhan, had breakfast. There was light rain and the beach was very dirty so we canceled tp in Ganapati pule and started our back journey. From ganapatipule to Nivaliphata and take left turn for Mumbai.
